Respiratory Medicine

Respiratory Medicine or Pulmonology is a branch of internal medicine that focuses on the study of the lungs and their supporting institutions, both in normal as well as in various pathological conditions.  The lungs and supporting institutions constitute the respiratory system.

Respiratory Medicine treats patients with respiratory problems.  The main task of respiratory medicine is the study and promotion of methods and techniques, which aim at the prevention, diagnosis, treatment and rehabilitation of various pulmonary disorders and diseases.

The "condition" or "disease" is meant pathological deviations of system operation known or unknown etiology, respectively.  Pulmonology adopts the same basic principles approximation of a patient suffering from pulmonary disease or illness, using and internal medicine, i.e. observation, reviewing, palpation, percussion and hearing.
