The main objective of every modern healthcare provider is to provide high quality care by ensuring that their medical and nursing staff is well trained. Today, medical breakthroughs and the advancement of medicine and hospital care are factors that every large medical center must take into consideration if it wants to continue to provide the best possible care to its patients.
Ygia Polyclinic in its effort to provide a higher quality of care to its patients and become a comprehensive medical care center, is forming several new departments in order to support the medical needs of our community. Recently, Ygia Polyclinic has formed an Oncology Department in order to provide cancer patients with a higher quality of care than what was until recently offered in the region.
The Oncology Department opened its doors to cancer patients on March 1st, 2009 after being accredited by the Cyprus Ministry of Health. The Department can accommodate up to 10 in-patients for short- or long-term treatment, as well as daily hospitalizations for out-patients. The Department has been equipped with state of the art equipment (AMERCARE) for the preparation and delivery of chemotherapy drugs. The Departmental facilities are configured to deliver chemotherapy drugs using traditional as well as other specialized delivery methods with the minimal discomfort to the patient. While patients undergo chemotherapy, those friends and relatives who accompany them can wait in a comfortable area within the hospital.
The Oncology Department’s staff has been very well trained in the use of the state of the art equipment used in the Department and is highly proficient in chemotherapy and the delivery of anti-cancer drugs. All our staff works under the direct supervision of oncology specialists (physicians).
In addition to chemotherapy and other anti-cancer treatments, the Department is organizing counselling and support services for cancer patients, their families and close friends in order to assist them with a variety of issues they face prior, during and post treatment. Counselling can also be a vessel where opinions and experiences are shared between former and current patients and their families as well as the highly trained personnel.
