Working with the CHKS Accreditation Programme gave YGIA POLYCLINIC the opportunity to apply for the Quality Improvement Award, by stressing the most significant improvements made in the organisation relative to the following key factors: 1. Patient safety 2. Patient experience and clinical care 3. Staff welfare, safety and morale
YGIA POLYCLINIC has been shortlisted for the CHKS Quality Improvement Award by the CHKS Accreditation Awards Panel, and has been nominated amongst five other hospitals. The winner will be announced at the awards ceremony on the 30th April 2013.
The CHKS Top Hospital Awards is an event where healthcare providers in the UK and Internationally are acknowledged for their efforts in innovation, improvement and dedication to provision of healthcare in a qualitative perspective.
Being shortlisted for the Quality Improvement Award is an honour for YGIA POLYCLINIC and this provides the recognition for all employees involved in this ongoing quest of quality improvement, which inevitably improves safety and welfare for all parties involved, including patients and employees.
I would like to take the opportunity to thank everyone involved and just wish to repeat once again that the journey never ends, as we will continue improving and moving to the next level.

Participation in conference “QUALITY ASSURANCE AND MARKETING IN HEALTH CARE” held on 28 November 2012 at Siakoleio Training Centre, Nicosia
The conference was held in November 2012 in Nicosia and was co-organised by the Cyprus Health Services Promotion Board and the Cyprus University of Technology.
Our Administration & Operations Manager, Mrs Christina Pitrakkou, was invited by the Cyprus Health Services Promotion Board to give a presentation on our experience of participation in an Accreditation Programme, since YGIA Polyclinic had recently been accredited by CHKS.
Mrs Pitrakkou was the project manager for the specific project and was responsible for co-ordinating the working groups towards the target of achieving the dual awards of Accreditation and ISO 9001:2008. YGIA Polyclinic was awarded the dual awards on the 12 September 2012.
In her presentation Mrs Pitrakkou discussed the benefits, obstacles and catalysts that were encountered throughout the process of preparation to final survey. Furthermore the distinction between the Accreditation programme of CHKS and other Accreditation programmes was explained, as well as the organisational structure and environment which needs to be considered when choosing a programme. Finally, Mrs Pitrakkou also pointed out the important factors that need to be considered to ensure success.
Below is a quote from her presentation:
«The journey was an experience whereby we all:
- matured - became wiser - increased our awareness on safety issues -familiarised ourselves with the concept of quality
The result is the legacy we leave to YGIA Polyclinic and to the others that will follow.»

After about 3 years following the signing of the agreement for participation in the Accreditation Programme of the Accredited British Quality Unit CHKS, our hospital was awarded the dual award of ACCREDITATION & CERTIFICATION to ISO 9001:2008 on the 12th September 2012.
As Project Manager, I would like to congratulate all the people that have worked and have contributed to achieving this very important distinction for our Hospital. There was a need to exert additional effort and time despite the difficulties and obstacles faced to finally reach today’s result which just goes to prove that any target can be accomplished.
Our target now is the next challenge – to MAINTAIN the dual distinction of ACCREDITATION & CERTIFICATION to ISO 9001:2008.
Furthermore, I feel that the journey was an experience whereby we all - matured, - became wiser, - became more sensitive to safety issues, - became familiar with the concept of quality
The result is the legacy we leave to YGIA POLYCLINIC PRIVATE HOSPITAL for the others that will follow.

8th March – New York – U.S.A.: textile women labourers went out to the streets demanding for better working conditions. In developed countries, several women rights have been established. Nevertheless, the celebration of the International Women’s Day is pertinent, as, the demand for full gender equality around the world, remains unsatisfied. To commemorate this day, «YGIA» Polyclinic offered 300 white roses to its women employees. |
