Intensive Care Unit

The Intensive Care Unit (ICU) meets the needs of the critically ill patients who require intensive monitoring and interventions in an environment of specialized medical and nursing services.

It has 12 beds and 3 step-down High Dependency Unit (HDU) beds.

It is designed to accommodate patients in separate rooms providing privacy, comfort and reducing the risk of cross contamination and spread of infectious diseases.  Each patient room is equipped with bedside monitors that provide 24 hour surveillance and recording of the vital signs, while connected to a central monitor in the nursing station.

The Intensive Care Unit is capable of supporting a wide spectrum of critically ill patients including surgical (cardiac, thoracic, vascular, neurosurgical, orthopaedic, gynaecologic and obstetric, general surgery, e.t.c.) as well as medical (cardiac, pulmonary, e.t.c).  It also supports a Stroke Unit capable of performing thrombolysis for ischaemic strokes 24 hours a day.

It is staffed with specialized Physicians trained in managing the acutely ill patient and all staff is systematically trained in PHTLS, ALS and ATCN.  Evidence- based medicine is implemented through up-to-date protocols that are established in scientific forums and in medical literature.

It is equipped with the most contemporary medical devices, e.g. ventilators, haemofiltration and plasmapheresis devices, blood gas analyzers, telemetry (remote cardiac monitoring), intra aortic balloon pump, defibrillators- external pacing devices, bronchoscopes, e.t.c.

The Unit is supported on a 24 hour basis by the Clinical Laboratory, Diagnostic Departments (MRI/ CT, X-Ray), Cardiac Catheterisation Laboratory and over 200 Associated Doctors of various medical specialties, rendering it probably the most complete private ICU in Cyprus.
