"Baby Friendly Hospital" Initiative

The "Baby Friendly Hospital" Initiative, started at YGIA Polyclinic Private Hospital in October 2015, and continues today with a team of doctors, midwives, and nurses under Dr. Maro’s Solomou guidance, pediatrician - certified lactation consultant (IBCLC), for the completion of their goals.

In June 22, 23 and 24, Dr. Solomou delivered a 3-day Breastfeeding Seminar with great success.  The seminar was scored by Cyprus Nursing and Midwives Association (CYNMA) with 12.8 points for continuous professional development.  One of the main goals of the "Baby Friendly Hospital" Initiative, is the training of all healthcare professionals who work / cooperate with the Hospital’s Maternity Department and have direct contact with the mothers and their babies.  The seminar was interactive, and the staff who attended had the opportunity for group discussion and practice.  It was completed with exams so that the staff could receive their certificate.  Among other lectures some of them were:

  • Breastfeeding Microbiome
  • Anatomy and Physiology
  • Skin to skin Contact
  • Breastfeeding support in premature infants
  • Building relationships and breastfeeding
  • Breastfeeding difficulties
  • The Baby Friendly Initiative

The midwives and nursing staff attended the seminar continues with the same enthusiasm to promote and support breastfeeding to mothers and their babies.
