“The First 1000 Days” Assembly

The 1000 First Days Assembly, organised by YGIA Polyclinic on Saturday 22nd of October 2018 at Lanitis Carob Mill, met the greatest success.  The Assembly was organised within the framework of Corporate Social Responsibility and the Hospital’s “Baby Friendly Initiative”.

The Assembly described the journey from the baby’s inception all the way up to the 2nd year of the child’s life, attracting thus the interest of Occupational Health Professionals, Paediatricians, Obstetricians, Nurses, Midwifes, as well as new and future parents, pregnant women, grandmothers, grandfathers and academics.

Greeting were given on behalf of the Ministry of Health by Dr. Maria Agathokleous, Director of the Paediatric Wing at the Limassol General Hospital, on behalf of the Medical Association of Limassol the President Dr. Marios Karaiskakis, on behalf of the Cyprus Paediatric Society the Secretary Dr. Michalis Anastasiades, on behalf of the Scientific Council of YGIA Polyclinic Dr. Ntia Argyropoulou, on behalf of the Board of Directors the President Dr. Yiannis Ioannou, and the President of the Assembly’s Organising Committee Dr. Maro Solomou.

The distinguished speakers explained through their presentations the importance of the first 100 days of the child’s life, elaborating on the following topics:

  • Breastfeeding and Sustainable Development.
  • The Journey of Pregnancy.
  • The Infant Microbiome and its Role in the Infant’s Health.
  • Breastfeeding for Premature Infants:  Advantages and Challenges.
  • How Much Caress is Enough?
  • Health Professional’s Perceptions about Breastfeeding.
  • YGIA Polyclinic:  Baby Friendly Initiative – Where Are We Standing?
  • Parent Experiences.
  • Breastfeeding and Caries:  Myths and Truths.
  • Sleep and Child:  How Much, Where and When?
  • The Foundations for School Success.
  • Gastroesophageal Reflux:  Symptom or Disease?
  • Normal Orthopaedic Variants in the First Two Years.
  • Vaccines:  How to Respond to Parents.

The international soprano Aliki Chrysochou performed songs – lullabies accompanied by a piano and enchanting the audience, while the entertainment of the young children who attended was undertaken I a specially-designed play room, by the well-known magician Liotatis who performed magic tricks, along with Mickey Mouse, dancing and face painting.

The 1000 First Days Assembly is yet another indication that YGIA Polyclinic is always carrying out its operations with respect towards the society and devotion to the mother and child.
