Dr Demetrios Giannakakis

Dr. Giannakakis is a graduate of the German School of Athens. He studied at the Faculty of Medicine, University of Giessen, Germany, and subsequently obtained board certification in Internal Medicine (2009) and Gastroenterology (2012) at the Academic Clinic of Offenbach, Germany.

At the Department of Gastroenterology in Offenbach, he served as a Consultant Physician from 2010 to 2014. He subsequently assumed the position of Deputy Director at the Department of Gastroenterology of Kreiskliniken Darmstadt-Dieburg (Gross-Umstadt), Germany, where he worked from 2014 to 2020.

From 2021 until March 2026, Dr. Giannakakis served as Director of the Gastroenterology Department at the German Medical Institute (GMI) in Limassol. As of 1 April 2026, he will assume the role of Head of the Gastroenterology Department at Ygeia Polyclinic, Limassol.

Throughout his professional career, Dr. Giannakakis has gained extensive experience across the full spectrum of gastroenterology and endoscopic medicine, with particular clinical interests in interventional endoscopy, endoscopic ultrasound (EUS), and gastrointestinal oncology. He regularly participates in international scientific congresses and educational seminars to continuously update his theoretical knowledge and further develop his practical skills.

Dr. Giannakakis is a member of the Cypriot, Hellenic, and German Societies of Gastroenterology. In addition to Greek, he is fluent in English and German.
