Dr Theodoros Kyprianou

Professor Theodoros Kyprianou, MD, PhD, EDIC is a senior clinician, researcher, and academic specializing in Respiratory and Intensive Care Medicine, with additional expertise in digital health, biomedical informatics, and clinical guideline development. He holds a professorship at the University of Nicosia Medical School and has led major clinical, educational, and digital transformation initiatives across Cyprus, the UK, and the European Union. His leadership has included serving as founding Head of Intensive Care at Nicosia General Hospital and as a consultant in major Academic NHS Trusts in London i.e. King’s College Hospital NHS Trust and St Thomas’s Hospital - GSTT. He has particular expertise in Acute and Chronic Respiratory Failure, Severe Sleep Apnoea and Home Ventilation as well as Coma and Chronic, resistant to treatment Lung Conditions.

Professor Kyprianou has actively contributed to European health innovation as member of the standing program committee of Horizon 2020, and the development of national eHealth infrastructure. He was the Consultant who delivered the structure and functionality of the Cyprus National Digital Health Record. He has raised over €3.5 million in research funding, coordinated seminal R&D projects and played a leading role in adapting evidence-based clinical protocols using the ADAPTE framework.

He is also closely involved in clinical ethics, curriculum design, and digital guideline dissemination, collaborating with international bodies such as the European Society of Intensive Care Medicine (e-Learning Committee, TECH-lounge) and the British Medical Journal – Best Practice (Knowledge Hub). A frequent speaker at international conferences, Professor Kyprianou has authored numerous scientific publications and serves as a senior editor and/or reviewer for a number of peer reviewed International Scientific Journals as well as flagship EU funding programs as EU COST / HORIZON. He combines academic rigor with practical leadership in health system innovation, with a strong focus on data-driven care, medical education, and ethical practice.
