Dr Savvas Ioannou

Dr. Savvas Ioannou earned a Doctor of Medicine (MD) degree from the Medical School of Aristotle University of Thessaloniki in 2001 and completed his medical internship at Wigan Infirmary (Wrightington, Wigan & Leigh NHS Trust), UK and his residency in Internal Medicine at Laikon University Hospital in Athens under the direction of Professor Haralambos M. Moutsopoulos.

He was specialized in Diabetes Mellitus, Diabetic Foot, Metabolism and Obesity at Laikon University Hospital, Athens under the direction of Assistant Professor N. Tentolouris. He also served as a Consultant Physician in the 1st Department of Internal Medicine at Laikon University Hospital, Athens.

He was awarded his Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree (Grade: Excellent) by the Medical School of National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, with his thesis focusing on Infectious Diseases: “Brucellar spondylodiskitis: efficacy of prolonged antimicrobial chemotherapy, diagnostic approach with PET/CT scan and monitoring by PCR” under the mentorship of Assistant Professor N. Sipsas.

Dr Ioannou and his family relocated to Limassol in 2011, where he began a private practice in Internal Medicine, Infectious Diseases and Diabetes Mellitus. He is currently an associate Consultant Physician at YGIA Polyclinic. He was also appointed by the Former Minister of Health, Mr Hadjipantelas as Member of the National Advisory Committee on Immunisation. He is also Vice President of the Board of the Limassol Medical Association and the Cyprus Society of Internal Medicine. Moreover, he is an affiliated Clinical Tutor with the Medical School of St George’s/University of Nicosia and the Department of Pharmacy of Frederick University.
