Dr Sofronis Loizides
General Surgeon, Colorectal Surgeon
Dr. Loizidis specializes in general surgery with a focus on minimally invasive (laparoscopic and robotic) colorectal surgery and gastrointestinal oncology. He graduated with honors from University College London (UCL) Medical School. He completed his surgical training at prestigious university hospitals in London and Surrey, specializing in colorectal surgery. He also earned a Master of Science degree in "Evidence-Based Healthcare in Surgery" with distinction. In October 2018, he received his Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) in the UK and was admitted as a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of England (FRCS).
Dr. Loizidis was selected for a one-year fellowship at the globally renowned Royal Prince Alfred (RPA) Hospital in Sydney, Australia, under Professor Michael Solomon, a world leader in colorectal and pelvic surgery. There, he trained in complex pelvic surgeries and cytoreductive surgery with heated intraperitoneal chemotherapy (HIPEC) for locally advanced, recurrent, and metastatic abdominal malignancies. He also continued performing laparoscopic, robotic, and general surgeries, including emergency and trauma cases.
He has a special interest in:
- Malignancies of the colon, rectum, anus, and small intestine
- Abdominal sarcoma
- Peritoneal cancer and cytoreductive surgery - HIPEC
- Pelvic exenteration for advanced pelvic cancers
- Surgical treatment of inflammatory bowel diseases, Crohn's disease, and ulcerative colitis
- Transanal minimally invasive surgery (TAMIS) for stage 1 cancer
