Dr Konstantinos Gousias

Professor Gousias is internationally recognized as an expert in brain and spinal cord tumor surgery, as well as in endoscopic surgery of the brain and spine. In this context, he has been selected in the Committee of Surgical Neuro-Oncology of the European Association of Neurosurgical Societies (EANS) and as an official mentor-trainer of the European Association of Neuro-Oncology (EANO) — one of only four neurosurgeons worldwide — for surgical techniques related to tumors of the Central Nervous System. He is also a member of the European Organisation for Research and Treatment of Cancer (EORTC) Brain Tumor Group, as well as a trainer at the Aesculap Academy for endoscopic brain surgery and at the Endospine Academy for spinal surgery. He has been certified by the German Neurosurgical Academy (Neurochirurgische Akademie) as an expert in neuro-oncological surgery and brain surgery under neuro-monitoring, based on the total and annual number of surgeries he has performed and the size of the clinic he directed. He is also certified in brain tumor surgery using the intraoperative fluorescence technique. In the field of spinal surgery, he holds the Master Certificate from the German Spine Society (Deutsche Wirbelsäulengesellschaft), awarded after completing a significant number of complex spinal operations, as well as the Eurospine Diploma from the European Spine Society. He primarily performs endoscopic spine surgeries, the least invasive of all so-called minimally invasive techniques.

He studied at the Medical School of the University of Ioannina (1998–2004). He specialized in Neurosurgery at the University Hospital of Bonn, Germany, where in 2013 he obtained the title of Consultant Neurosurgeon. From 2016 to 2018, he served as Deputy Director of the Neurosurgerical Department at the University Hospital Bergmannsheil Bochum, and subsequently as Head of the Neuro-Oncology Section at the Neurosurgical Department of the University of Marburg. In 2019, he was elected Director of the Neurosurgical Department in Lünen, Academic Hospital of the University of Münster, where he developed oncological and endoscopic surgery for brain and spinal disorders. Since 2024, he has been Director of the Neurosurgerical Department at Athens Medical Center and collaborates with Ygia Polyclinic in Limassol. He has been awarded the titles of Associate Professor and Professor of Neurosurgery by the Universities of Bonn (2014), Münster (2021), Nicosia (2022), and the European University Cyprus (2024).
